10 Great Sleep Habits

  1. Use your bed only for sleeping or sex. 
  2. To make biological clock more regular, develop a regular sleep schedule. 
  3. If you don’t fall asleep within 15 to 20 minutes of laying down, get up and get out of your bedroom. 
  4. Get enough sleep. This on average is about 7–8 hours for a person but can differ significantly based on individual bodily needs. 
  5. If you have insomnia avoid taking naps during daytime. But in general, 20 minute nap would do most people good. 
  6. Don’t do intense exercise or take a hot bath right before bed. These activities raise body temperature, making it harder to fall asleep. Take a lukewarm bath instead as this can relax your muscles making it easier to fall asleep. 
  7. Avoid caffeinated drinks and other stimulants before going to bed. 
  8. Dinner should be light and not too close to bedtime. 
  9. Herbal teas, relaxation exercises, breathing deeply and listening to calming music can help in getting ready to sleep. 
  10. Invest in comfortable mattress, bedding and pillow. High quality cotton is considered a great fabric to sleep in.
